John (Jock) was given free passage as an ex serviceman. He arrived with sixpence in his pocket and was assisted to find employment as a fitter on the Keiway Valley hydro electric team in Victoria. He then worked in New Guinea and Victoria until 1973 when he moved to Perth with his wife and 3 children.
