We left Southampton on the 6th Sept. and arrived in Perth on 9th Oct. 1971. We were supposed to arrive on Sunday the 10th, but the dock workers weren't working or were on go slow on the Sunday so the Captain made up time to get us in on the Saturday. From there we were supposed to go to Graylands Migrant Centre but they were full, thank god. It was a Migrant Centre which was formerly army barracks. The accommodation was Quonset style huts (semicircular corrugated tin huts). Instead we were taken to Noalimba, the white building on the corner of the freeway and Leach Highway. It had just been built at the time (refer http://www.covenant.vic.edu.au/lfed/DVD/drs/R2725/description.html) and was much better. We were there for a couple of months until we moved to Hamilton Hill.
