Charles and Elizabeth emigrated to join Elizabeth's sister (May) and brother (Arthur). The family settled in Claremont with Cecil, Beryl & Constance attending Claremont primary school. Charles worked as a bootmaker, first finding employment at Pearce and Swan factory in Fremantle and later at Comfort West in East Perth.
