Grandfather born Bishopgate England. No work for a hatter. He joined Police Force 08/12/1877 retired 25/07/1892, became a publican 1895, built and opened The Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle in 1904 till 1908. Also owned houses in Wray Ave. He had a family of 10 children.

Daughter Louisea, aged one, also accompanied John and Mary Anne on the Hastings. Baby son George was born in transit but died and was buried at sea.

Great Grandpa John was a police officer at Williams when he first arrived and then a publican in Fremantle.He owned at least 4 hotels.

My great grandfather, John P Beresford's middle name was Pattinson ( his mother's maiden name), not Pattison but over the years it was and has been mispelt.

My great-great grandfather is J.P. Beresford. I'm a descendant of J.P.B and His wife Mary Anne Gallaway. Their son Henry James Beresford married twice, to Marion Gaskell Thomas (1) and to Earle Foster Rapley (2). H.J.B and wife #2 had four children, one of whom is my grandfather.

My great grandfather was John Pattinson Beresford, his son Henry James Beresford my grandfather and his son, Leonard Henry Beresford my Dad. Great Grandpa's middle name has been spelt many ways. On his birth certificate it is spelt "Patteson" even though his Mum's name was spelt
"Pattinson". On his death certificate it's spelt "Patterson" and on his headstone at Fremantle Cemetery it is spelled "Pattison". Often happened over many years depending on who was completing the necessary documentation.
