James first worked at Armadale Brickworks then at BP Refinery Kwinana until his death in 1972. As the founder of Medina Caledonian Society he initiated the formation of the Green Hackle Pipe Band. Marion worked at the Medina Kindergarten and was a member of the Uniting Church, CWA and bowling club.
