Isabella Bain was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on 17/11/1896 to James McDonald & Jane Grassick. She was widowed when her husband H. Murdoch Bain died as a result of injuries received in France during WW1. She embarked from the steamer Demosthenes at Albany on 31/8/1921 determined to start her life anew. She worked in the Great Southern Region & met Jack (John Henry) Oxman to whom she had 4 daughters - Barbara, Mary, Margaret, Constance & 2 sons - John Henry (Jnr) & Colin. Isabella & Jack eventually settled in Wembley & enjoyed a long & happy life together. They were the proud grandparents of 24 grandchildren. Isabella loved to sing & dance & enjoyed life to the full. She spent the last 33 years of her long life in Mount Henry Hospital being well cared for by wonderful staff. She is lovingly remembered by members of her extended family & friends as being a caring wife, mother, grandmother & great-grandmother. She was a wonderful Scottish lady.

I am the 2nd of Isabella Bain (nee McDonald)Oxman's 24 grandchildren. I prepared the biographical notes that feature on the Welcome Wall at the request of my mother, Margaret Victoria Hancock (nee Oxman) when she initially applied to have Isabella's name and arrival in Western Australia details included on the Museum's Welcome Wall at Fremantle. I can be contacted at the above email address or via telephone at 08 93548763 if further information is needed about my grandmother and her life long partner, John Henry Oxman (Snr). My grandfather was known as Jack who was born at the 195 mile water tank at Cuballing WA in May 1903.
