Born Chana Getel Patchick outside Lodz in Poland. Her family escaped the Pogroms against the Jews in Eastern Europe by emigrating to England, She lived in North London until following her daughter to Australia in 1966. A dressmaker, she worked for Aherns department store in her early years in Australia.
