CHINESE JACKET, 1940s

Jacket of mid-blue cotton (rayon?) pinstriped with white; stand up collar; front-side closure with Chinese style knobs and loops of self fabric rouleaux; elbow-length sleeves cut in one piece with the bodice; hand and machine sewn. Worn by Mrs Hoy, who came to WA from Singapore with a British family for whom she worked as amah. Worn with matching trousers; outfit called 'Samfu' (lit. 'bottom-top').
