NEEDLEWORK PICTURE, Fremantle Harbour, early 1890s

CH1985.40

Needlework picture worked in stranded wools in coarse satin stitch, some trees in fly stitch, ships' rigging etc in single strands of silk; shows Fremantle and harbour from west side with cottages and gardens in forground, boats and dredges in harbour with beginnings (?) of harbour works; bar at mouth of river; Arthur Head with lighthouse and signal mast; the Long Jetty with ships; Fremantle town.

Not signed or dated. Label on glass reads ' fremantle harour - about 1890/ Needlework picture by Mr H. Passmore,/ showing the mouth of the Swan River and/ the old Swan Jetty before the commence-/ ment of the harbour works' - typed. Label on back of frame also typed: 'Fremantle Harbour in 1890/ Woolwork picture by Mr H Passmore/ Donated by Mrs Finlay of West Swan in 1944/ No 102'.
