COFFEE CUP AND SAUCER
CH1981.400
Etruscan shaped cup with serpent handle. Flat shaped saucer with shallow well. Saucer and inside of cup painted with border of pink roses and gilt foliage and stylized gilt pattern in centre. Band of gilt flowers and foliage around outside of cup. Both marked on base 'SPODE' in red and pattern number 3614 in red. Number indicates a date between 1806 - 21, though 'Etruscan' style cup indicates a date not before 1816. Ref: Leonard Whiter Spode pages 85, 128, 224.
