BULLOCK YOKE

T1970.1118

Not typical of south west team yokes. They were invariably made of sheoak, a light, strong timber which does not splinter. In use sheoak developed a polish. Bows were fixed by linch pins which were secured to a 'strong boot lace'. The ring on this specimen also atypical. Usually a ring bolt through a central hole. Tom Doyle thinks that this was probably made to harness a single pair of bullocks to a plough or for log rolling.
