VEGETABLE TUREEN AND COVER

Transfer printed design in pale and medium blue and white. Pattern of "Chinese" pagoda and bridge, with vase of flowers in foreground. Cover also shows boat on river. Moulded scroll handles and raised decoration on edge, at base of tureen & near top of cover. Pattern inside tureen also. Marks on base. (i) in under-glaze blue: "(within pagoda) PEKIN \ Sketches \ I.C." and impress " 35". Impressed inside cover: "31". Unable to trace mark, but glaze appears early 19th C. Nairn no. 98. Glaze bluish.
