DIARY - Years for Freedom and Peace

H1990.373

Twelve month, spiral bound permanent diary. On the left hand side of the cover is a photograph. The photo is of a group of WILPF (Women's International League for Peace and Freedom) members standing under banner that calls for world disarmament The photo was taken in 1932. To the right of the photo in purple print are the words; "years for / peace / and / freedom". Below this in smaller print is the following: "PERMANENT DIARY". Under these words is a short description of the uses of the diary and who the photos and illustrations are by in the diary. This description is printed in green ink. In the bottom right hand corner appears the price; "(pound symbol) 2.50 / US$3.50". The first page of the diary describes how the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom started. Subsequent pages consist of a calender for each month. Each month covers two pages. On one page there is a photo or drawing of WILPF activities. The rest of the space is made up of date squares. Because it is a permanent diary, the owner must write in the days of the week above each date. The various activities of the WILPF on each page are as follows: WILPF members planting roses for peace, meeting of women from different nations at The Hague in 1915, Dr Hilda Clark and Nurse Edith Pye, 1915 American peace delegates, Jane Addams - first president of WILPF, 1932 British disarmament petition, 1929 WILPF poster, 1936 Charlotte Despard addressing an anti fascist rally, 1933 WILPF demonstration, 1983 WILPF poster, 1956 WILPF International Congress, 1983 WILPF STAR demonstration. The back cover of the diary has a description of the photo on the front cover and the address of the WILPF British Section.
