Small, round, light green with black decorative detail, metal, ‘WATKINS/ MENTHOL CAMPHOR/ OINTMENT’, tin. Ointment inside. Top of lid reads; ‘2 OUNCES/ NET WEIGHT/ WATKINS/ MENTHOL CAMPHOR/ OINTMENT/ PHENOL 2 ¼ GRAINS PER OZ./ MADE IN AUSTRALIA/ WATKINS PRODUCTS. INC/ MELBOURNE, ADELAIDE/ SYDNEY, PERTH/ BRISBANE’. ‘MENTHOL CAMPHER/ OINTMENT’, surrounded by black decorative border/background, remaining text circled by black and white border. Base of tin reads; ‘WATKINS/ MENTHOL-CAMPHOR/ OINTMENT/ COOLING – SOOTHING – HEALING/ An external application for head colds, chest colds and other/ forms of superficial and minor congestion. For neuralgia,/ muscular soreness, nasal irritation. For cuts and bruises, cold sores,/ frost bite, chapped hands and face, cracked lips, w..dburn, sunburn,/ superficial burns and scalds, chaffing and prickly he.., rectal irritations,/ non-venomous insect bites and stings. Excellent after shaving. Will/ not irritate most delicate tissues./ DIRECTIONS/ FOR HEAD COLDS – Insert Ointment into nostrils, also rub on/ forehead. CHEST COLDS - Apply liberally to throat, chest and/ back, massaging skin vigorously. Cover with warm flannel cloth./ FOR MUSCULAR SORENESS, NEURALGIA – Rub Ointments/ vigorously on parts affected and cover with flannel cloth./ FROST BITES, CHAPPED SKIN – Apply generously. SUPER-/ FICIAL BRUNS AND SCALDS, CUTS, BRUISES,/ SORES – Spread Ointment on clean cloth and cover/ area. RECTAL IRRITATIONS (Itching Piles)/ Quickly absorbent, soothes and heals./ INSECT STINGS AND BITES – Wash/ with hot water and apply/ Ointment./ FM 357’. Black text, surrounded by black and white circular border. Paint is scratched, tin rusting and ointment residue all over. Very stiff to open, small amount of Yellowish, Vaseline-like ointment inside, smells strongly of menthol.
