SALT & PEPPER SHAKERS, Wembley Ware
H1994.134.1-2
Ceramic salt and pepper shakers, the salt is the shape of a tomato, the pepper is the shape of a cabbage. The salt shaker (.2) is enamelled red, with a green stalk. It has a plastic stopper in its underside (perhaps non-original), and is inscribed 'WEMBLEY/ QUALITY WARE' around the stopper hole, the inscription surmounted by a crown symbol. Salt is extruded via a single hole in the stalk. The pepper shaker (.1) resembles a perfectly formed, sligthly pointed cabbage, enamelled light green, with five holes for the extrusion of pepper positioned in the heart of the cabbage. Unlike .2, it has a cork stopper on the underside, but has an identical inscription.
