This document is a print from an etching, a metal etching. Originally the document was engraved into metal, then printed off. The document has a large picture in an arch shape printed on it. The picture shows a 'pyramid' arrangement of people and activities. On the very top of the pyramid is a bird with a piece of leaf and twig in its mouth, followed by a female angel holding two halos above two men, one on each side on the angel. After the two men, there is a man, dressed as a soldier on one side and a woman on the other. The next layer has two men kneeling on one leg trying to bend wood. In the middle of this pyramid are three oval shapes with portraits of men in them. Underneath this pyramid type arrangement is a square divided into six pieces with six individual pictures inside each one, all the pictures are of working scenes. On the left of these pictures is a steam train, on the right is a ship. Text on document reads 'BE UNITED AND INDUSTRIOUS/ AMALGAMATED SOCIETY OF ENGINEERS, MACHINISTS, MILLWRIGHTS,/ SMITHS, AND PATTERN MAKERS./ This is to certify that __________ was admitted a member of the/ ____________ Branch on the _________day of________18_________/ In witness whereof we have subscribed our names and affixed the society's seal./ __________PRESIDENT. ________________SECRETARY./ James Sharples inv/ printed by BRADBURY, WILKINSON & CO LD/ PUBLISHED BY THE AMALGAMATED SOCIETY OF ENGINEERS./ 89 STAMFORD STREET, LONDON, DECEMBER 31, 1852./ ENGRAVED BY WILLIAM GREATBACH./ 2 CRESCENT PLACE, MORNINGTON CRESCENT, HAMPSTEAD RD LONDON'.
