Photograph, black and white, of US Sailors from Company 39-43 surrounded by uneven handcut(?) cream paper border and silver frame with concave glass cover. ‘COMPANY 39-43/ 7 FEB 1940 U.S.N.T.S. SAN DIEGO, CAL.’ in white writing bottom centre of photo. There are 8 rows of sailors, 112 in total, wearing dark uniforms with crossed arms. Two sailors in centre of front row wear different, lighter uniforms. At least one sailor on either end of front row is cut off by cream paper border. Homer White is centre of second back row, with 8 sailors on either side. 2cm black marker arrow drawn on glass indicates Homer White. Two sets of 2 flags with crossed poles are positioned towards both right and left end of front row of sailors. Left most flag contains image of a building. Right hand flag of left set is dark with ‘43’ written on it in lighter colour, with two 5-point stars below number 3. Left hand flag of right set is indistinguishable. Right most flag is dark with light image of sailor on left, letter P in light colour on right. Three-railed wooden fence visible in front left corner. Trees visible in top right and top left background. 8mm wide silver metal frame, with 2mm wide ridges covering inner and outer edge of frame. Frame has wooden back with foldable wooden stand attached by metal hinge. Thick black wire attached to metal hook on either side of frame back above foldable wooden stand. Three flat circular metal clasps attached to frame secure wooden back in place. Top of wooden back chipped in top right corner and a small chip in top left corner.
