    In the morning found ourselves to be 3 miles east of Wijncoops Mountain's Point. Being becalmed we lay at anchor in mist; the low foreshore was full of trees, inland high mountains with 3 to 4 times of land as high as low mountains. At night in the first watch the wind was N: to N:N:E: with a light breeze. We weighed anchor to depart and after an hour's sailing we were once more becalmed and anchored on 221/2 fathoms black sand with shells.

    Smorgens gevonden ons 3 mijl beoosten van Wijncoops Bergens Hoeck te wesen bleven door stilte leggen voor ancker met heest daer schoon laegh voorlandt vol boomen landtwaerdt in hooge bergen als met 3 a 4 dubbel landt zoo hoogh als lage bergen des nachts in de eerste wacht kregen den windt N a N:N:O: met labber koelte hebben ons anckers gelicht om 't zeijl gegaen naer een uure zeijlens weder door stilte geset op 22 1/2 vaem swart zandt met schelpen

    The wind W:S:W: topsail breeze; remained at anchor. In the afternoon called upon the council with anxiety to decide whether to turn South or to set forth to the Strait of Bali; informed them that we were 34 to 35 miles from the Strait of Sonda and more than 120 miles west of the Strait of Bali and asked what would be the best. The ship's council then decided to take to the sea again to see whether we could encounter any other winds to reach the Strait of Sonda at the soonest. The whole night fine weather.

    In the morning a light little breeze from the N:W:. Weighed anchor and went under sail, tacking around the S:S:W: to reach the shore, but because of the rough sea and the current that flowed around it, to my regret we were forced to sail to the Strait of Bali and try to get through there and so reach Batavia. Set our course tonight east to S: in order to remain away from the shore. The whole night fine weather except for a slight shower of rain.
