BOX: Rectangular box, mahogany veneer and metal edging. The name plate on the top external face has been removed, locking device on the side doesn't work. The box is hinged with a velvet interior. There is storage space below the instruments which lift out on a velvet pad. The set originally belonged to W.R. Joachim, a School of Mines Instructor in Adelaide or Melbourne in the late 1880s. INSTRUMENTS: Nine assorted instruments of nickel alloy, four of which have the initials "M.W." decoratively engraved. There is some question as to whether the instruments have come from the one set or whether they have come from several different sets. The instruments are: a) divider, b) compass (with a small lead pencil intact), c) bow, d) bow, e) bow (?) (with small lead pencil intact), f) drawing pen, g) drawing pen, h) drawing pen, i) drawing pen, and four other miscellaneous items in the storage area. SEE SUPPLEMENTARY FILE H87/0355 for pencil drawings and additional information. Also see p 457 of the Army and Navy Stores Limited, price list number 102 for a picture of a similar set.
