Inscriptions: Signed and dated: "J.E. Miller" lower right corner - not entirely clear. Title: "Invicta" lower right corner. Subject Matter: Three (?)-masted, square-rigged sailing ship: view of bow. Distance, a steamship and small sailing craft. (Note from Richard McKenna - built 1880s to 1890s, came out from Britain as fully-rigged ship then cut down to three-masted barque as this requires fewer crew. Possibly they came here with "Invicta". Biography: See file 616/81. Born England 1882, Edward John Miller. Worked at various lighthouses in WA, including Rottnest About 1920 changed signature from J.E. Miller to E.J. Miller. Reason not known.
