Queensland Dwarfgoby
Eviota queenslandica
Semi-translucent greyish in colour with intense dark spots on head and bars along body. Tiny, to only 2.5cm length.
Morphology
Dorsal fin with 7 spines and 8-10 soft rays; Anal fin with 1 spine and 7-9 soft rays; 23-25 ctenoid scale rows along body.
Evolution
Highly diverse genus (> 65 spp), possibly mediated by rapid niche partitioning and high resilience to extinction as well as allopatric speciation.
Behaviour
Benthic and diurnal. Hides among rubble.
Method of reproduction
Nest guarding by males. Pelagic Larval Duration is very long - around 40% of maximum lifespan, compared with < 1% in most reef fishes.

Marine
Marine. Rubble and algal-covered reef to 6 m deep
Distribution
Thailand to Vanuatu, Taiwan and Australia.
