MODEL single cylinder engine

T1985.363

Model of single-cylinder vertical steam engine painted green and red. The engine can be run at quite high speeds, 1000-1500 rpm and is suitable for marine or stationary work. A direct-acting vertical engine with crankshaft over the cylinder was patented by Phineas Crowther of Newcastle-on-Tyne in 1800 and became the standard type of winding engine in that coal field.
