MODIFIED EXTRACTING PELICAN
T1974.525
OLD INSTRUMENTS P.54. "The formidable instrument may be regarded as a modified form of the pelican.... The working of the instrument is as follows: The movement upwards of the lower handle draws the portion (E) backwards, this again acts on the prolongation of the rod (I), the backward movement being kept in a horizontal direction by the screw (G) running along the slot in (A). Directly the ends of the fulcrum and claw meet the resistance of the tooth the claw (J) pulls the tooth up the inclined plane formed by the outer surface of the fulcrum (B)."
