BUTTON, 'CONVICT/PRISON', metal, circa 1850s

Tarnished dark coloured circular button, raised inscription in capitals, ‘CONVICT/ PRISON’, with central crown. Sides of front crimped over the back plate which is separate and loose. Small, distinct oblong hole in center of back plate. Small 1cm section of crimped edge appears lacquered or painted.
