Small black leather bound book; embossed in gold on spine is a floral pattern. Reads 'ROYAL/ BIJOU/ BIRTHDAY/ BOOK/ LONDON'. Pages are pinky-gold around the edges. Inside is blue and white marble pattern.
1st page reads 'THE ROYAL BIJOU/ BIRTHDAY BOOK/ A SELECTION FROM THE POETICAL/ WORKS OF/ SHAKESPEARE, WORDSWORTH, HOOD, TENNYSON/ MOORE, BURNS, CAWPER, SCOTT, GOLDSMITH/ HEMANS, BYRON, MILTON'.
Next page gives printer's name: 'LONDON:/ EYRE & SPOTTISWOODE (BIBLE/WAREHOUSE) LTD/ 33 PATER NOSTER ROW, E.C./ EDINBURGH & NEW YORK'.
Set out: page has 2 pieces of poetry, one for each day with the date in red at the top. On facing page is the same dates given in red with four blank lines underneath each date for entering the names of people who were born on this day.
Page 89 - on the space marked 'March 24' entry has been made which reads 'ALEX DIED ROUEN/ FRANCE-1918'.
Very few other entries were made.
