CERTIFICATE, Coolgardie Exhibition

Certificate awarded to Mrs McNeil for her creation of a flower arrangement made from human hair. The certificate is on white paper printed with a pink, then grey, then plain gold borders. Across the certificate in a red banner, is 'WESTERN AUSTRALIAN/ INTERNATIONAL MINING AND INDUSTRIAL/ EXHIBITION' and in a gold frame below this 'FIRST ORDER OF MERIT/ AWARDED TO/ Mrs McNeil (handwritten)/ GROUP 13/ CLASS 85/ FOR/ HAIR FLOWERS/ COOLGARDIE 1899'. Signatures of the President, General Manager and Secretary follow. The certificate is decorated at the top with shields and emblems and the Western Australian coat of arms. It also features the Australian coat of arms. There is an illustration of what appears to be an arm of the new Fremantle Harbour with a steam ship on the horizon. WesterN Australian wildflowers are depicted below the red banner and alongside the gold frame while, below, along the lower section of the certificate, are three individual scenes within gold borders. The first is of a small house set in the bush; the second shows the Exhibition building while the third is of a mining site. Across left hand lower corner is printed 'MARION GOODE/ DELL'.
