BOOK, Children's
H1993.1
Eight page, unbound paper booklet of nursery rhymes, each adapted to promote the message that children should buy 6d. War Saving Stamps. These would be stuck on a card with 32 spaces and a full card earned you a 1.0.0 War Savings Certificate. This was 'PART OF YOUR WAR EFFORT'. Each page is illustrated with the rhyme's characters in full colour. Two examples of the rhymes are as follows: 'TWINKLE, TWINKLE, SIXPENCE BRIGHT, / I WILL TEACH YOU HOW TO FIGHT. / EVERY SAVINGS STAMP I BUY / HELPS AN AEROPLANE TO FLY.' and 'JACK AND JILL WENT UP THE HILL / A SAVINGS STAMP TO GET. / "WE'VE BEGUN, / TO BUY A GUN. / WE'LL BEAT THOSE GERMANS YET".' Part of a large donation of objects from the house of the late Mr & Mrs Osterberg. The objects were cleared from the house by relatives from the Eastern States who came to Perth to settle the estate.
