COMMEMORATIVE STAMP
H1992.11
Plastic envelope with black card backing with stamp commemorating 'OPENING OF TRANS-AUSTRALIAN RAILWAY / 12 NOV 1917' 'W.A. STATE SCHOOL EMPIRE FUND'. Purple ink on white background. The W.A. State School Empire Fund, a patriotic WW1 organisation, issued a label and this was attached to many of the covers carried on the first mail run on the service (the Trans-Australia). The labels did not perform any postal function however, despite their appearance, and should be regarded only as souvenir vignettes.
