TROPHY, soccer, 'Challenge Cup', 1898-1959

Elaborately decorated, two-handled, lidded cup, surmounted by soccer player with ball held high. Beaten and engraved decoration of flowers and scrolls. Mark on base: 'C Bros S/EP/ 690'. Engraved on one face: 'Challenge Cup/ Presented/ to the/ BRITISH FOOTBALL ASSOCATION/ of/ Western Australia/ By W.C. Thomas Esq.' and on the other face: 'Won By/ (Civil Service or Fremantle Wanderers from) 1898 (to) 1903'.
Other winners from 1904 to 1907 appear near the rim of the cup, then winners from 1908 to 1914 on the edge of the base and 1919 to 1928 on the rim of the base. 1915 and 1947 appear on plaques on the stand, out of order with the years from 1929 to 1959, when the cup was last awarded to Windmills. There are no plaques for 1938 and 1942 to 1946.
