a) Ladies long handle lorgnette, in plain TORTOISESHELL, with flick open lens. 15cm length. c. 1900. Round lenses.
b) Long handle lorgnette, made of steel (12.5cm). c. 1900?
c & d) Short handled lorgnettes, in rolled gold with embellish-ments.
c) Semi-lorgnette hinged, spring bridge (see pic Davidson p. 12) and oval lenses. Ian MacLeod suggests fabric is gold plated or gilding brass (5% zinc, 95% copper). Late 1800s?
d) Unsprung lorgnette; gold plated (according to Ian MacLeod), round lenses. Date c. 1850s (similar design to Bate's 1828 patent see pic Orr p. 19).
