Gold metal spectacle frame, small oval lens shape, thin wire ear pieces, in mottled green wooden case lined with crimson velvet.

Spectacle caseis called a shagreen case. Shagreen is a kind of untanned leather with a granular surface prepared form the skin of the horsem shark, seal etc. Ron Johnson at the Musem identifies this example as fish skin. Lenses are missing.
Similar shagreen spectacle case is shown in Christie's Catalogue 1992, p 18 and Marly Pierre p. ? which dates the case as mid 1800s.
