VASES, x2
CH1981.436.a-b
2 vases with elaborate decoration of leaves and vines each with 2 cherubs playing amongst the vines. [.a] is orientated towards the right and [.b] towards the left. Basically the decoration is pink, turquoise and gilding. Both have Meissen sword marks cancelled by a rubbing through the glaze. [.b] is also stamped '40'.
The style and decoration are similar to a vase in Morley-Fletcher. 'A vase of flowers, c. 1850. This is a rococo model found very rarely in its original 18th century form, but fairly common in the 19th century. The combination of pink, turquiose and gilding is a standard feature of the period.
