MANTEL CLOCK

From the Townsend Family. Mantel clock with wooden case painted black with gold decorations, gold coloured frame around glass, white dial with black numerals and gold coloured centre-piece. At base of dial: "MADE IN UNITED STATES OF AMERICA BY WM. L. GILBERT CLOCK CO. WINSTED CONN." According to Drepperd 'AMERICAN CLOCKS & CLOCK MAKERS', Gilbert made clocks in the second quarter of the C19th (1958:228) but on the mechanism is stamped: "PAT. APRIL 28 1896" and "1911" and "WM L. GILBERT CLOCK CO. WINSTED CONN. \ U.S.A."
