"Blue & White Ginger Jar. Kang-Hsi period, fine quality. Hawthorn & crackle decoration. Lid modern." (LAM 33) See Gulland (l911:l55): `..."hawthorn pattern" - really the "prunus" which produces its blossoms before its leaves...'. (See Pl. l47, opp. p.156 & description no. 247, p.156, Gulland). Two reserves, one has three-legged scroll stand at left with two scrolls. Vase on right containing piece of coral and two peacock's feathers (see Gulland Pl. 61 & p. 61-62). Two rectangular objects below vase, probably inkstones. Vessel for holding water with small spoon - to right of vase. (See Gulland Pls. 72& 73 & p. 66). Second reserve depicts vase with two peacock's feathers at centre front, scroll behind and two scroll stands on either side behind scroll. Leaf to right and symbol to left. Similar to symbol no. 80 (Gulland 1911:67 & 69). Purchased from Hyam & Co., South Kensington, 13 October 1916 for 3 pounds 10. Ann Roberts: A blue and white Ginger Jar reserved on the prunus strewn cracked ice' ground, with quatrefoil panels of precious objects.
