WRITING DESK, portable

CH1975.224

Hinged wooden box featuring inlay on top and front external surfaces inlay utilizes variety of wood types. On centre of lid, a mother-of-pearl inlay is inscribed 'M'.
Writing surface inside box is lined with deep pink satin (or similar). In the front pencil compartment, a small synthetic polymer corss (badly blistered) and a nail file with a rusted black and broken synthetic polymer handle (now yellowed and chipped).
In main compartment under writing surface, the following objects were found:
-four feathers - 3 dark brown, one light brown.
-a postcard of a WWI soldier (probably) with a dog.
-two memorial cards to sister M.Gerard O'Mahoney, d. 12.8.1950.
-six blank telegrams.
-Newspapers cutting - possibly for 'In Memoriam' notice for Reverend Father Raphael Lawrence Pace, The Record, 13th August, 1953.
-four Catholic Benefit Society accounds dated 1954.
-Halbert Service Pty Ltd - house deposit/ certificate of title notices, 1954.
-Typed poem entitled 'Somebody Else'.
-City of Perth rubbish clean-up notice, 1970.
-Newspaper clipping entitled 'A Native Girl Wept' (no data).
-three empty envelopes.
-Thread on card for pearl beads.
-Instructions on what to do when a priest calls to attend a sick person (entitled 'A Sick Call....').

These documents have been place into collection documents filing cabinet.
