BELL, "Lady Mitchell" & PRESENTATION PLAQUE
CH1974.637.a
The bell comes from the "Lady Mitchell" pilot boat which was originally a Canadian built US Navy tug used during WWII. The tug was originally a "Tanac" class of tug and was commissioned in 1943. It was remodelled for use by the Fremantle Harbour Trust (now the Fremantle Port Authority) for use as a pilot boat after the war and is still in service. The bell was removed during remodelling. The bell - as a school bell - took place on 22 December 1954 in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the opening of the school. Inscription: "MV LADY MITCHELL \ PRESENTED TO \ BICTON STATE SCHOOL BY \ FREMANTLE HARBOUR TRUST."
