WATERCOLOUR Fremantle Townsite and mouth of Swan River

Inscriptions: Not signed or dated. However on mount (probably original): "Fremantle - Swan River / Painted by Chas. Pechell R.N. / Midshipman HMS "Rattlesnake" and Lieutenant HMS "Pelorus" / between 1837-40". Subject Matter: Looking towards Fremantle and Garden Island? Painted from memory. Biography: No record of Pechell's presence in WA. Born 1810, died 1894. Other: Topographically impossible for the period, or indeed any other. Buildings too numerous and high, more significantly there is no Round House - a constant feature of all reproductions post 1832.
