Described as Polytelis anthopeplus westralis Mathews 1915
Common name: Regent Parrot Specimen collected: Bolgart, WA (31°16'01''S, 116°30'00''E) Collected: 1953-04-14 Sex: Female
Remarks: Palaeornis anthopeplus Lear 1831 and P. melanura Lear 1832 were based on plates published in Illustrations of the family Psittacidae, or Parrots 1830-1832 without description or source. Mathews 1912 presumed type locality was NSW and named P. a. westralis from south-west Australia. Schodde 1993 noted that Lear's plate matched best with the western form and designated this neotype from Bolgart and provided the name P. a. monarchoides for the eastern Australian population. Mees 2004 argued that Schodde's action was invalid and the type locality should remain NSW.
