DESCRIPTION OF A NEW GENUS AND SPECIES OF MONACANTHID FISH FROM INDIA

Abstract - A new genus and species of monacanthid fish, Lalmohania vellltina, is described from six specimens collected in the Kilakkarai region of south-eastern India. The taxon appears to be most similar to members of the genus Stephanolepis, but differs in scale structures, fin shapes, fin ray counts, lateral line sensory system, and structure of the pelvic fin rudiment.
