Marks: "CIVIL SERVICE \ STORES \ SYDNEY" & "(Lion) \ (crown) \ ROYAL DOULTON \ (monogram) \ ENGLAND. Ref. Godden p. 215, no. 1351 1902-22 & 1927-36 Britannia, with Athena helmet, trident etc. Set against globe of the world and the rising sun (signifying glory and bright future etc). Flags of participation nations - Empire Day. Empire Day introduced 1905 but always opposed by Labour movement and by Catholics. Held on 24th May, late Queen Victoria's birthday, but from 1911 Catholic schools celebrated 24th May as Australia Day. See Stuart Macintyre, Oxford History of Australia, Vol 4 p. 133
