Jug, depicting "The Gallant Fishers" from one of Royal Doulton's series wares. Multi-coloured underglaze picture of two fishermen sitting on a wall, tree extends from lip to base. Base has deep green border. Inside rim, in underglaze brown: "AND WHEN THE TIMROUS TROUT I WAIT TO TAKE. AND HE DEVOURS MY BAIT". On base in underglaze brown: "ROYAL DOULTON / (fish hanging from bracket) The Gallant Fishers / ENGLAND" also in green: "D3640" indicates an earthenware piece, pattern first introduced between July 1908 and August 1916.
