DESK COMPANION

H1991.26

The desk companion consists of a wooden shelf with a rest for pens and 2 holes to hold ink bottles. There is a hole in the middle between the larger holes which may have had something pushed into it. There is a round ink stain around that hole. The rest is also stained quite badly with ink. The cracks in the front of the companion appear to start at the same level that the screw has been placed. The ends of the desk companion seem to be made out of cast metal. The pattern on these ends seems to start with the figure of a woman in the centre with floral patterns either side of her and ending with a criss-crossed pattern toward the bottom of the stand and another petal like shape at the top.
