Margined Coralfish

Chelmon marginalis

Silvery with two narrow orange bars on the head and front of body. A broad yellow-orange band near tail.

Morphology

Long pointed snout and markedly triangular body. Highly distinctive.

Evolution

One of only three very closely related species.

Behaviour

Carnivore, using long snout to reach cryptic invertebrates among coral and rocks. Often in pairs.

Method of reproduction

Gonochoristic (seperate sexes).

Habitat

Marine

Coastal coral and rocky reefs.

Distribution

WA to QLD, endemic.
