Double-sided banner; "AMALGAMATED SOCIETY of CARPENTERS / & JOINERS". Made by Richard Fellows. Storage box in poor condition. Storage box inadvertently destroyed by Conservation Department, October 1981. "Made by Perth artist, Richard Fellows, 1915. The design on one side is similar to that on the certificate.* The certificates and banners of the Engineers, and the Carpenters Societies are more traditional and more allegorical than the other two banners. The other side of the banner gives the name and branch of the society and the mottoes `United to Protect, Not Combined to Injure', `Union is Strength', and `Credo Sed Caveo' (I believe but I beware). St Joseph of Nazareth ( a carpenter) and James Blayne (Chairman of the British committee in 1866), are illustrated standing on either side of the society's emblem". * Membership Certificate of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners, designed by A.J. Wanby, CH74.116.
