EVENING DRESS

H1987.137

Mid-late 1930s full length sheath style evening dress in black silk crepe printed with beige felt and painted with white, blue, pink and red camelias, dress has high front, is sleeveless with cutaway back; fitted at torso, waist and hips with peplum at waist, skirt has pleats at waist, with characteristic 1930s shorter front and longer back; dress fastens at back, has eyelets, hooks and press studs; hand & machine sewn. Original dress remodelled; evidence of top being reworked. Label: "PARIS / PARIS COUTOURE / 18 L'AVENUE".
