BONNET
CH1980.511
White cotton. Soft-crowned, worked all over crown with hand-worked pin-tucks, worked in squares. Brim slopes in curves over the cheeks in the fashion of women's bonnets of 1840's ca to 1850's. Brim composed of piping, rows of gathering with insertion of hand-worked broderie anglaise seam double lace edged (machine Valenciennes) frill, becoming triple frill at cheeks. Small bavolet with cotton draw-tapes at back and ties with wide cotton ties. All hand-sewn. Probably fit child of about 10+ (?). Reference: A.
