BOMB LANCE

Description from old exhibition label -
'The Indian rubber "feathers" were wrapped around the shaft when it was pushed down the barrel of the gun: when fired, they flew out and steadied the trajectory.
The lance, filled with gun powder, was exploded by a fuse in the stem when it was inside the whale. (Original feathers have decayed. Those shown are restoration.)'
