Rectangular, grey cardboard covers with brown label affixed to front cover (W: 116mm x H: 80mm) with faded gold coloured lettering to front ‘Photographic Views/of/PERTH/J. MANNING/ PHOTOGRAPHER, PERTH.’ Label has a rectangular border with flourishes to corners, sides, top and bottom. Label is faded and shows some signs of insect damage. Brown leather to spine.
Sepia photograph of Perth Town Hall on inside cover (photo dimensions W: 93mm x H: 110mm)
Inside is a fold-out page of twelve sepia photographs adhered to linen backing, containing scenic views of Perth. The photographs include, top row left to right: 1) ST. GEORGE’S TERRACE/SOUTH SIDE WEST; 2) ST. GEORGE’S TERRACE/NORTH SIDE WEST; 3) HOWICK STREET/LOOKING EAST; 4) HAY STREET/LOOKING EAST; middle row left to right: 5) GOVERNMENT HOUSE/ 6) GOVERNMENT OFFICES/BARRACK STREET; 7) CATHOLIC CATHEDRAL/AND COLONIAL HOSPITAL; 8) HAY & HOWICK STREETS; bottom row left to right: 9) RIVER SWAN & MT. ELIZA; 10) ST. GEORGE’S TERRACE/EAST; 11) APPROACH TO PERTH/FROM FREMANTLE ROAD; 12) HAY STREET/WEST.
Some discolouration to linen photographic backing.
Hand written black ink inscription to front cover of fold-out page ‘For Dear Fanny/from S.L.D.’ Lead pencil inscriptions above and below ink inscription: ‘19’ and ‘1880’. Further lead pencil inscription to back of fold-out page ‘WESLEY CHURCH’
