H1990.240.a-c

Volumes 1, 2 and 3 of "The Australian Junior Encyclopedia, Volumes I to III". Has a map of Australia impressed in cover, and purple stamp reading "St Michaels Convent of Mercy Kalgoorlie." Published by the Australian Educational Foundation in Sydney. readers. Seems to have an arts-history emphasis. Used by the nuns of the Convent of Mercy, Kalgoorlie, when teaching at St Michael's school, Butler Street. The Convent of Mercy (residence) is now in Croesus Street, the Reverend Mother was Sister Regina. St Michael's school was eventually taken over by St Joseph of the Sacred Heart teaching order. There is now only one Catholic primary school in Kalgoorlie, St Mary's, run by St Joseph's. The old building was sold in around 1981 and was bought by Ross Lightfoot, who transported it to the bush. The Sisters of Mercy were an early Catholic teaching order to come to the goldfields, teaching on missions in Leonora and Laverton.
