Inscriptions: Signed not dated: "J. Barker" lower right corner. Subject Matter: Residency Point looking towards inner harbour. Biography: Extract from Gooding, see bibliography: 1867 to 1943, born York, United Kingdom. In England he worked as a designer in several potteries. Arrived in WA in 1924 to set up a pottery at Narrogin - this was a failure. Moved to Albany where he earned his income from sales of work and portrait commissions. Other: Painted before foreshore development. Note: Information from Mr White, an ancient lawyer who knew Barker: during the 1930s depression, Barker made handpainted Christmas cards, Mr White had one at of his house in Nedlands.
